Ultimate 1-99 Hunter Guide Old School Runescape (Fastest & Profitable Methods)

Welcome to my complete level 1 – 99 Hunter guide.

This article will take you through everything you need to know to train your Hunter, as well as all the best methods that you unlock and some profitable methods towards the end of the article. I am also going to talk about Birdhouse runs, which are arguably the fastest low level Hunter training method in the game. I will also talk about Implings, which are really good money at high levels. Then, I will give a big summary of the whole guide at the end of the article.

Traps

It is very important to keep track of the number of traps that you can set up at a time when you are training Hunter. Every 20 levels, you can set up one more trap. Increasing the number of traps you have really does increase your XP per hour.

Items Required

While you are training Hunter, wearing Hunter gear does not actually do anything. Any Hunter Armour is completely cosmetic, and does not increase the rate at which you catch an animal. Graceful is a great armour set to wear while training Hunter. But, for methods like Chinchompas, where you do not need to do much running, you can wear whatever you want. It is worth noting on this list, that you need to complete Eagles’ Peak to be able to set up Box Traps. The quest is not too long, and you also get a decent Hunter XP reward for finishing it. So, it is important to get out of the way once you have the requirement. I have also added the Ring of Pursuit to this list, which gives you a 25% chance of revealing the entire track of anything that you are tracking. So, this is for any animal that you catch with a Noose Wand.

Fastest Way to 99 Hunter

Levels 1 – 9: Varrock Museum Quiz

Now for the fastest way to 99 Hunter… The fastest way to level 99 is through the Varrock Museum. Doing the Varrock Museum Quiz will give you 1000 Hunter XP and 1000 Slayer XP. To start it, you have to go to the basement of the Varrock Museum, and speak to Orlando. He will then ask you to do a few questions in all of the display cases around the basement area, and once you have answered them all correctly, go speak to him, and he will give you your XP.

Levels 1 – 7: Polar Kebbits

If, for some reason, you do not want to go do that, then you can go and catch Polar Kebbits, which are located north east of Rellekka in the snowy Hunter area. A good way to get there for a really low level is to use a Camelot teleport. Or, if you have unlocked it, you can use the Fairy Ring code and then run a bit north. It is really recommended to use the Ring of Pursuit while you are catching these, and it really will speed up the time it takes to get to level 7.

Level 7 – 15: Feldip Weasels

At level 7, you unlock Feldip Weasels, and you should get onto these straight away after doing the Varrock Museum as well. They are located in the Feldip Hunter Area. A good way to get there is using a Ring of Dueling Castle Wars. Or, you can also use a Gnome Glider, which takes you right in the centre of the area. Feldip Weasels can be caught for about 6000 XP per hour, and believe it or not, that is actually faster than catching Birds. I will talk about catching Birds in the Alternative part off this guide. But, catching weasels is the fastest way to level 15.

Level 15 – 33: Ruby Butterflies and Copper Longtails

Once you hit level 15, you unlock Ruby Butterflies, and these guys are located in the Piscatoris Hunter area, which you can use a Piscatoris Teleport Scroll from the Grand Exchange to get there really quickly. These butterflies are located near the Copper Longtails, which are birds you can catch with bird snares. If you set up bird traps while you catching the butterflies, you can get up to 13 000 XP per hour, which is really good at level 15. At higher levels, you can get over 20 000 XP per hour if you have the bird snare set up right, and you camp at one of the butterfly spawns.

Level 33 – 37: Barb-tailed Kebbits and Crimson Swifts

Once you reach level 33, you can catch Barb-tailed Kebbits, and these are also located near some birds. But, this time, they are next to Crimson Swifts. You have to go back to the Feldip Hunter Area to catch these ones, and you will need an axe and a knife to set up the Deadfall traps. You get over 20 000 XP per hour while you are catching the birds and the Barb-tailed Kebbits. If you have the Kandarin Head Gear, even Kandarin Head Gear 1 will work, you actually cut 2 logs at a time for any regular tree. This makes hunting at Deadfalls a lot easier and faster. So, it is really recommended.

Level 37 – 43: Prickly Kebbits, Ruby Butterflies and Copper Longtails

At level 37, you unlock Prickly Kebbits, and these are located near birds and butterflies, which means that you can catch all 3 at the same time to get the maximum XP per hour. You can get over 30 000 XP an hour here, and you can also bring a chisel with you to chisel the Kebbit Spikes into Kebbit Bolts, which are stackable. Each Kebbit you catch will give you 6 Kebbit Bolts, which is the equivalent of about 500 coins. This makes it pretty good money.

Level 43 – 57: Spotted Kebbits (Falconry)

At level 43, you unlock Spotted Kebbits in the Piscatoris Falconry. By paying 500 coins, you can rent a Falcon, which you can use to target the Kebbits in the fenced off area. At level 43, you can catch the Spotted Kebbits, and depending on how focused you are the whole time, you can get up to 60 000 XP per hour. You can also bring a Bonecrusher with you, which automatically will bury the bones that you get, and means that you only have half of the items that you would normally have to drop.

Level 57 – 60: Dark + Spotted Kebbits (Falconry)

At level 57, you unlock Dark Kebbits, and if you catch both Dark and Spotted Kebbits, you can get over 60 000 – 70 000 XP per hour, and you should do these all the way through to level 60 Hunter.

Level 60 – 67: Red Salamanders

At level 60, you unlock the ability of being able to set up 4 traps at a time. You unlock Red Salamanders at level 59 Hunter. But, you should really start these at level 60 Hunter once you can place down 4 traps. You will earn over 80 000 XP per hour, and at higher levels, with a lot of focus, you can get over 100 000 XP per hour. The Red Salamanders are located near the Ourania Altar, and a good way there is by using the Spirit tree to the Khazard Battlefield and walking west.

Levels 67 – 80: Black Salamanders

At level 67, you unlock Black Salamanders, which are located in the Wilderness near the Green Dragons and the Hill Giants. You can get well over 100 000 XP per hour here, and they are in under level 30 Wilderness, which means that it is very easy to teleport out if you get attacked. Since you will be releasing all of the Black Salamanders you catch, it is only recommended to do these to level 80. The XP rates are very good here.

Level 80 – 99: 3 Tick Red Chinchompas

But, they are about the same as catching Red Chinchompas from level 80, with 5 traps set up at a time. Catching Red Chinchompas normally will get you about 100 000 XP per hour. But, using the 3 tick Hunting method to set up your box traps, you get about 20% more XP per hour, boosting you up about 160 000 – 170 000 XP per hour. Since this is located in a safe place and not in the Wilderness, this is the fastest training method in the game. All the way through from level 80 – 99 Hunter, you will make about 90 000 000 from Red Chinchompas, and if you done the Western Provinces Hard Diary, you have access to the Red Chinchompa Hunting Ground, where there are a lot more Chinchompa spawns, and the normal areas are usually quite crowded with bots and other low level players. I have linked a 3 tick Hunting Guide at the end of this article, so check that out if you are interested.

Level 80 – 99: Herbiboars

Another method that you unlock at level 80 Hunter is tracking Herbiboars on Fossil Island. To do this, you need to have completed the Bone Voyage quest. With Stamina Potions and very precise clicks, you can actually get about 150 000 Hunter XP per hour. On top of that, you will get an extra 40 000 or so in Herblore XP for harvesting the Herbiboars. Whilst you are catching the Herbiboars, you also have a chance of getting the Herbi pet, which has a 1 in 6500 drop rate.

Level 60 – 99: Maniacal Monkeys

Another method that I have not spoken about that fits into this category is catching Maniacal Monkeys. By using bananas as bate, you can catch these guys for 1000 XP per monkey and a 1 in 5000 chance of getting a monkey tail. What is so good about this method is that is it far less click intensive. You will not be making as much XP per hour or GP per hour. But, there is a lot less focus involved, which makes this a very inviting method to some players.

3 Fastest Ways to 99

So, those are the fastest and most viable ways to train to level 99 Hunter. The Maniacal Monkeys is a bit of an alternative method. But, I felt that since it is not very click intensive, it is a method that is very viable to train to 99.

Alternative Methods

Level 1 – 29: Birds

Now for the rest of the alternative methods… You can catch birds all the way through to level 29 Hunter. Most of the birds are also located near butterflies. So, by using bird snares and butterfly nets and jars, you can train your Hunter decently quickly at a low level. I have listed each bird on the screen right now, and it is worth noting that you can skip the Crimson Swifts by doing the Varrock Museum.

Level 29 – 47: Swamp Lizards

At level 29, you also unlock Swamp Lizards in the Morytania Hunting Area. At low levels, you will be aggressive to the Snails in the area, and there are also some Ghasts around – more so in the eastern area. But, the big 152 XP for each lizard is very inviting for some players, and is a quick way to 47 Hunter if you get bored of doing tracking.

Level 47 – 60: Orange Salamanders

At level 47, you unlock Orange Salamanders as well, and sadly, these guys are in the Desert, which does mean that you will need some waterskins and desert clothing to protect yourself from the desert heat. Above level 50 Hunter, you can actually get about 50 000 XP per hour. Personally, I really recommend going to the Falconry instead of doing these salamanders. But, if you would like to change up your training a bit, you could alternate between the two.

Profitable Methods

Level 73 – 99: Black Chinchompas

I would like to quickly go over some profitable methods to level 99 Hunter. Of course, Red Chinchompas are a really good method for profit in the long run. But, Black Chinchompas are one of the best Hunter money making methods in the game. Sadly, they are located above level 30 Wilderness, which means that you cannot teleport out of there without running south, and it is a PK hotspot. When you unlock them at level 73, if you catch them through to 99, you would make yourself about 125 000 000.

Level 5 – 99: Birdhouse Runs

Another method that is decently profitable, but very different to any other method is Birdhouses. Each run takes approximately 2 minutes, and can be repeated every 20 – 50 minutes, depending on which birdhouse you use. This is a method that is comparable to Farming, and at really low levels – so, level 5 Hunter, it is actually the best XP per hour in terms of actively playing the game.

Implings

The last method I have for you guys is easily the most profitable method in the game, and this is catching Implings at Puro Puro. The XP rates here are really bad. But, if you are solely looking for money, catching the high tier Imps can make you millions per hour.

Summary

But, now, I would like to summarise the full Hunter guide. 3 Ticking Red Chinchompas with 5 traps is probably the best way to train your Hunter level to 99. You would make about 90 000 000 in profit, and the XP rates are very fast. You can get really fast XP and profit from Herbiboars. Or, for those that are wanting to train to level 99 the fastest with a more AFK method, you can check out the Maniacal Monkeys, which are available after Monkey Madness 2. Lastly, the Birdhouse runs are something that you should really look into at lower levels. I have linked the guide down below as I said, and as soon as you unlock them at level 5 Hunter, it is a great idea to get into them.
