1.The basics 4:1 stands for taking 1 olm hit for every 4 whip/hasta hits Olm has a 4 tick attack cycle, which can't be stopped but its attacks can be skipped by making olm turn its head. This is the attack cycle that is for every olm, originally discovered by Woox.

This full cycle can be simplified to this 16 tick cycle so it's easier to remember and understand.

I'll be referring to this simpler cycle in the next steps in this guide by using the numbers. 1.1. Olm's attacks Regular attacks can be: mage or range hit, a prayer draining orb, falling crystal attack or crystal bombs, acid area attack or player specific acid attack, player specific burn attack or flame wall. Special attacks are: spikes, lightning, portal and healing hand on the 3rd phase Regular attacks are numbers 1 and 3 in the cycle as well as 4 which is idle but if olm turns its head on 3 then it will do a regular attack on 4. Special attacks are number 2. 2. 4:1 Idea The basic idea is to get to attack number 3 in the cycle and then waiting for attack 4 which is idle attack if olm didn't turn head on attack 3. The easiest way to get to attack number 3 is to just wait at olm's melee hand's thumb until after a regular attack olm doesn't do an attack and you can begin the cycle. This however isn't the most supply efficient way to get to the 4:1 cycle and you may not be able to stay still if you get a portal. 2.1. How to get to the 4:1 cycle To get to the 4:1 cycle you need to know where you are in the 4 attack cycle. To find that out you need to take 2 olm hits in a row or take a special attack on the first one. 2.2. The outcomes from taking 2 hits in a row can be: (A) A regular attack followed by another regular attack. This means you took hits 4 and 1 in the olm's attack cycle. (4th wasn't idle attack due to olm turning his head on 3rd attack.) Because olm's next attack is 2 (special), you want to go to the middle safespot to skip that attack and then go back to the thumb to take hits 3 and 4 (idle) after which you can begin the 4:1 cycle.

Alternatively you can do a 3:1 after taking 2 hits and then be in the 4:1 cycle. Both result in the same amount of hits taken in the end but I prefer the former due to it being quicker. (B) A regular attack followed by special. This means you took the hits 1 and 2 and next is another regular attack and then idle attack. Try to stay at the thumb so you are ready to begin the 4:1 but if teleport prevents you from staying you should go to the portal while counting hits (3,4,1) so you can use the safespots to skip next special attack (2) and then start the 4:1. Clip of what to do if the special is lightning or spikes:

(C) A special followed by a regular attack. From the special attack (2) you can instantly tell that next attack will be regular attack (3) and the attack after that is idle (4). Just like in the previous step stay at the thumb or go do portal if that is the spec.

(D) A regular attack followed by an idle attack. These attacks are numbers 3 and 4 which means you can instantly begin the cycle after waiting olm to do his "idle attack".

(3,4)
*If the special is healing hand, you should know that it goes away after 4 hits/head turnings. Count 4 and then start attacking again and you'll be in the cycle. 3. Distracting regular attacks As stated before, regular attacks can also be acid, crystal bombs, falling crystals and flame walls which can interrupt the 4:1 cycle if not dealt with properly. There's also a chance of olm spawning as what I like to call "scuffed" instead of normal. Scuffed olm's animations are a tick out of sync so it can throw you off if you don't know how to handle it. For example the falling crystals (the ones between phases) hit the ground 1 tick later compared to normal, which is probably the easiest way of noticing that the olm is scuffed. In the next steps I'll go over different situations and how to handle them. 3.1. Crystal phase Falling crystal attack Dealing with the falling crystals isn't very difficult but you need to know a few things. One crystal falls every 2 ticks so you need to keep moving at least every 2 ticks and you obviously need to be at the thumb for olm's idle attack to stay in the 4:1 cycle. Make sure to click 1 tile east or west of olm (depending on which side olm is) at the middle safespot so you will automatically dodge the falling crystal. At the melee hand safespot if the olm is "scuffed" you need to click 1 tile east or west of olm (depending on which side olm is).

(normal olm)
Crystal bombs If olm does the crystal bomb attack during 4:1, it will always explode at the same time which is when you come from middle safespot to hit the melee hand while running to melee hand safespot (1 tick later on scuffed olm). https://i.imgur.com/EULNnKs.png?2 If the bomb is too close or you have little food there's an alternative way to avoid it by doing as shown in this clip here:

3.2. Acid phase Acid attack For beginners it's recommended to just run between safespot if olm does the acid attack. It's also helpful if you keep track of the head turnings so you know how to get back in to cycle instantly after the acid is gone. There's also a more difficult method which requires you to move every tick but it will allow you to keep the cycle and not miss hits at the cost of 1 acid hit (3-6 damage) if done perfectly.

The skill gap between the methods explained above is pretty big so if you want something inbetween them try doing the first 2 hits of the more difficult acid and then running to mage hand safespot. 3.3 Flame phase and final phase Avoiding the firewall can be done in multiple ways but you should always move at the time of olm's attack in those phases. On normal olm to use the least run energy do the dodge move from melee hand safespot and spam click between the flames when coming to the hand again to keep the cycle going.

On scuffed olm the firewall will stay for 1 tick longer so you need to either not make it appear or have it not be in the way. To do this you need to go 1 north of melee hand safespot on west side and 2 south of melee hand safespot on the east side. 4. TL;DR Get olm to attack on 3 and 4 on this attack cycle
