Back as part of Equipment Rebalancing in February, we spoke about the lack of equipment ‘tiers’ options in Old School.
Some of the game’s most powerful weapons have much lower requirements than their perceived or actual strength. This has left little room for the introduction of new weapons without causing powercreep. Plus, there’s a lot of confusion among players about how strong some items actually are in the first place.
Thus, we need to adjust the requirements of certain items to better match their stats. This will also help expose the gaps for us to add new items in the future.
With new content on the horizon, we’re now ready to return to the discussion and continue gathering your feedback.
As a reminder, here is the list of items whose requirements would be impacted:
Current requirements: 75 Attack
Proposed requirements: 80 Attack
Blade of Saeldor

Option 1
We proceed as we originally planned as per the Equipment Rebalancing project.
Pros
Fixes the issue we set out to address, and provides a clear distinction between weapon tiers.
Cons
Leaves pures in a very unfortunate state, with their concerns unaddressed.
Option 2
This involves providing the affected weapons with two sets of requirements. As long as one of these is met, the item can be equipped.
The second set of requirements would accommodate accounts that would otherwise be negatively affected.
Note: If we were to proceed with this option, it’s important we make it clear that future weapons would NOT come with dual requirements.
Suggested equip requirements:
Ghrazi Rapier, Blade of Saeldor & Inquisitor’s Mace:
- 80 Attack, or
- 75 Attack and 99 Strength
Scythe of Vitur:
- 85 Attack and 85 Strength, or
- 75 Attack and 99 Strength
Pros
Fixes the issue for pures, allowing them to equip the same items that they can currently (as long as they have 99 Strength).
Fixes the issue we set out to address, and provides a clear distinction between weapon tiers.
Cons
We don’t typically have dual requirements in the game for any items, and likely won’t do again in the future, so these items would stand out as an exception.
As always, we’d love to hear what you think, so please share your feedback with us via the official forums, on the 2007Scape Reddit, the Steam forums or the community-led OSRS Discord.
