Bounty Hunter Rewards Poll Blog

Bounty Hunter Rewards Poll Blog

New Section (25/09/2019): A new section offering an alternate design for the Ancient Warriors’ weapons was added. It can be found under ‘Ancient Warriors’ Weapons Design – Charges’. We’re looking to poll the rewards this Friday (27/09/2019) and will amend the poll questions to match whichever design is preferred.

Changelist (25/09/2019): Dagon’hai robes have had their Defence requirement reduced to 40 with their stats changed accordingly. The drop rate was also reduced.

Changelist (12/09/2019):

  • The poll questions offering corrupt dragon equipment were removed. We would like more time to understand how they should be introduced and what the consequences might be. One concern is that in their current state, corrupt dragon weapons would have been available to free players despite being intended as members-only content. We were also wary of the impact they may have had on PvP in free-to-play following the addition of Snare on those worlds.
  • Dagon’hai was deemed too powerful for a 30 Defence requirement. We have increased this requirement to 70 and specified the drop rate from the deep Wilderness Larran’s chest it would be available from (1/512). Some players feel this is not a fitting place for Dagon’hai to be placed into the game – if the poll question fails, we may offer it elsewhere at a later date.
  • The looting bag changes will negatively affect UIM who will no longer be able to effectively stockpile the bags. We’re considering allowing players to store spare looting bags with an NPC.
  • The GP that PvP weapons convert to when dropped was considered too low. It has been increased to 2,500,000 GP and the curse fee has been raised to match. This adds greater risk when using the weapons and a bigger reward for defeating an opponent who has one.
  • The questions about PvP weapons being used in combat other than PvP were clarified.
  • The cost of the rune pouch in the new points system has been reduced to 75 (roughly equivalent to 1,500,000 GP in value).
  • The interaction between the Saradomin sword upgrade item and the blessed version of the sword has been clarified.

In the Bounty Hunter design blog we pitched a points system and new rewards for the minigame. We’d like to thank you for your feedback, which we’ve used to solidify the contents of this post and its poll questions. The core changes since the design blog are as follows:

  • The legacy BH shop will remain open for a couple of months after full release to allow players ample time to cash in their old mysterious emblems.
  • All existing items in the BH shop will be re-costed according to the new points system and added to the new shop. This includes the looting bag.
  • All rewards discussed in the original design blog will be tradeable.
  • Killstreaks will not end upon logging out.

Since the original design was overwhelmingly popular, we would like to proceed to a beta sometime after RuneFest. In the meantime, we would like to poll the rewards.

The poll is expected to open on Friday September 27th and will close on Wednesday 2nd October.

W45 Deadman

In Deadman players have access to the Bounty Hunter shop and can use emblems from Wilderness Slayer to purchase its items. We are in discussion with players from that community about how the rework design should affect this world.

The Rune Pouch and Looting Bag

The rune pouch will remain available in the Bounty Hunter shop after the rework. In the original pitch we suggested that this should cost 250 Bounty Points, but feedback suggested that this price was too high. We’ve decreased the cost to 150 Bounty Points and may make further adjustments if necessary.

Update: this is now likely to be around 75 points following further feedback and is still open to suggestions. Some players have also requested that the item’s cost in the Slayer reward points shop be reduced. This may be polled at a later date.

Rune pouches have always been indirectly purchasable with GP because mysterious emblems are tradeable. Post rework, players won’t be able to convert mysterious emblems into the points they need to obtain a rune pouch from the BH shop. To avoid trouble with the in-game economy, rune pouches will be made tradeable, as will looting bags, although these will be much cheaper in the BH shop. The rune pouch’s Grand Exchange price will match its’ current effective value and the looting bag will be inexpensive. If lost on PvP death, the PKer will receive the rune pouch.

We would also like to make rune pouches and looting bags stackable. This would allow you to accumulate spares, avoiding having to purchase new ones each time they are lost. However, only one of each could be used at a time. We can also make looting bag drop rates scale to the level of Wilderness NPC that drop them.

Poll Question #1
Should players be able to own more than one rune pouch? If this question passes, each one would link to the same store of runes.
Poll Question #2
Should players be able to own more than one looting bag? If this question passes, each one would link to the same store of items.
Poll Question #3
Should the drop rate of the looting bag scale to the combat level of Wilderness NPCs? Looting bags will not become rarer drops as a result of this change.

Elemental Runes

In the design blog we offered “Omni” runes. After your feedback, we decreased the original price of these in the shop and made sure they would be tradeable, allowing anyone to use them. Now called Elemental runes, each one can act as an Air, Water, Earth or Fire rune and can be used anywhere within the Wilderness. These would be tradeable and cost 1 point for 100 runes.

Poll Question #4
Should Elemental runes be included in the Bounty Hunter shop as part of the rework? These tradeable runes can each act as Air, Water, Earth or Fire runes and can be used anywhere in the Wilderness. They would cost 1 Bounty point for 100 runes.

Larran’s Keys
With mysterious emblems leaving the Wilderness Slayer loot table, we would like to offer the following additional rewards from Larran’s chest to make up for the lost value. If any of these pass, they will be available from both chest locations, but more common from the one in deeper Wilderness.

Dagon’hai Robes

In the Warding poll we offered the Dagon’hai robe set, which received 72% support. We’d like to offer the set again to see if it fares better coming from Larran’s chest instead.

The set would require 70 Magic and 40 Defence to equip. This has been increased from 30 Defence in the original pitch.

Dagon’hai Hat

  • +5 Magic Attack
  • +5 Magic Defence
  • +2 Prayer
  • No other bonuses

Dagon’hai Robe Top

  • +25 Magic Attack
  • +21 Magic Defence
  • +2 Prayer
  • No other bonuses

Dagon’hai Robe Bottoms

  • +18 Magic Attack
  • +14 Magic Defence
  • +2 Prayer
  • No other bonuses

Poll Question #5
Should Dagon’hai robes be added as a rare reward from opening the Larran’s chest in deep Wilderness? Each piece would have a 1/256 chance to be received. The full set would require 70 Magic and 40 Defence to equip, and offer 48 Magic attack, 40 Magic defence and 6 Prayer bonus in total.

Recolours
In the first Bounty Hunter rework design blog we suggested a number of items that could be recoloured. While some players liked the idea and suggested other items that could be recoloured, the majority were against the idea of offering further cosmetics from the Bounty Hunter shop. In response, these have been removed from the design and won’t be polled.

The alternate special attack animations for the godswords had more appeal than the other recolours. As such, we’d like to poll the following question:

Poll Question #6
Should four permanent unlocks be added to the Bounty Hunter store? Each one would change the colour of a godsword’s special attack animation swipe to gold. They would cost 100 points each and could be toggled on/off once bought.

Weapon Upgrades

In the rework design, Bounty crates are a reward that are bought with the new Bounty points, averaging 100,000 coins worth of rewards – typically PvP supplies. We suggested that Bounty crates should contain tradeable attachments that improve the viability of certain weapons. We’re pitching two weapon upgrades, with opportunities for more to be added in the future:

Saradomin Sword Upgrade

This upgrade item would replace the special attack of the Saradomin sword with a more powerful one, identical to the special attack from the original version of the Korasi sword. This upgrade could be applied to standard or blessed versions of the sword (ones with a Saradomin’s tear already applied). When an upgraded blessed sword runs out of charges, the sword would be lost as usual, leaving you with the tear and new attachment. It could be later blessed again with another tear.

Poll Question #7
Should an upgrade item for the Saradomin sword be added as a very rare reward from Bounty crates? This would give it a new special attack that costs 60% energy and deals 50%-150% of the user’s maximum hit as Magic damage (rolling the user’s Slash bonus against the opponent’s Magic Defence), much like the original Korasi sword. This upgrade item could be applied to both the normal and blessed versions of the sword.
Abyssal Dagger

Feedback has suggested that the abyssal dagger is underused in PvP. To remedy this, we’d like to offer an upgrade item that improves its special attack.

Poll Question #8
Should an upgrade item for the abyssal dagger be added as a very rare reward from Bounty crates? This would reduce its special attack energy cost to 25% and increase its accuracy by 20%.

Ancient Warriors’ Weapons

Note: This is an alternate design added on Wednesday 25th of September, after feedback was received on the original design (posted 10/09/2019). Since then, this design was preferred and replaced the original which involved a one hour degredation timer.

Since we first posted our plans to bring the Ancient Warriors’ weapons into the main game as Bounty Hunter rewards, we’ve had lots of feedback. One key concern is that converting to a fixed amount of coins on PvP death is not enough of an incentive to fight an opponent. Another is that the weapons are too powerful. We’ve adjusted our ideas to address both issues. The curses from the first design do not feature in this one.

Ancient Warrior Fragments

We would like to give the weapons a charge system rather than a fixed timer. In the first design, each weapon would last for one hour of use before degrading to nothing. That’s a lot of time, especially if the weapon is only used for its special attack (which we expect will be the case for many players).

Instead, we would like each weapon to have a maximum of 250 charges, with 1 charge being depleted upon every hit. Because each weapon has an attack speed of 5 ticks, this amounts to 12.5 minutes of use, increasing their rarity and greatly increasing the cost of using them as main weapons.

If lost on PvP death, the PKer will receive all remaining charges as ‘Ancient Warrior Fragments’ and an uncharged version of the weapon. Both the fragments and uncharged weapon will be tradeable alongside the charged versions. The weapons come fully charged when first obtained from Bounty Hunter and can all be charged with the same fragments.

The final aspect of the design is that the uncharged weapons can be disassembled into 500 Ancient Warrior Fragments (two full charges). You may recognise this system from the Serpentine Helmet. Although there is an element of luck in the number of charges received from PKing these weapons, the amount of Fragments gained from disassembly should mitigate this.

Morrigan’s javelins and thrown axes, being more like ammunition than weapons, will not be included in the charge system. Also, being far more common, they will only convert to a small amount of Fragments if lost on PvP death.

Vesta’s Longsword Special Attack

For the purposes of this section, ‘cycle’ refers to the length of time it takes to regenerate 10% special attack energy.

In response to concerns around Vesta’s longsword being too powerful, we originally offered it with a special attack energy cost of 50% (compared to the 25% it had in Deadman Mode). However, this is actually a much larger nerf than it may seem.

At 25% energy cost, a special attack may be used 4 times and a player has to wait 3 cycles for the 5th. At 50% cost, a player can use the special attack twice and then has to wait 5 cycles before they can use it again, making a 50% cost a more severe nerf than simply ‘half as good’.

After careful consideration, we would like to offer Vesta’s longsword with a special attack cost of 35%, meaning that players can still only use it twice initially, but only need to wait one cycle for their third attack. This seems more appropriately balanced for PvP fights.

Your Feedback

As always, your feedback is essential. You can tell us what you think in the Tweet linking to this post or on this Reddit thread. If the community prefers this design, the poll questions will be updated accordingly in time for the poll which is expected to open at the end of this week.

Update: In response to feedback, the poll questions have been adapted to match this design.

All of these weapons have an attack speed of 5 ticks except Morrigan’s Javelins which are 6 tick.

Poll Question #9
Should Statius’s Warhammer be added as an extremely rare reward from bounty crates in the upcoming Bounty Hunter rework? It would come with 250 charges with one depleting on each hit. On PvP death, it would drop as an uncharged version alongside the remaining charges in the form of Ancient Warrior Fragments. This uncharged version would have the option to be dissassembled into 500 Ancient Warrior Fragments for charging any other of the Ancient Warrior weapons. It will only be usable against other players by default unless questions 15 or 16 pass.

Poll Question #10
Should Vesta’s Spear be added as an extremely rare reward from bounty crates in the upcoming Bounty Hunter rework? It would come with 250 charges with one depleting on each hit. On PvP death, it would drop as an uncharged version alongside the remaining charges in the form of Ancient Warrior Fragments. This uncharged version would have the option to be dissassembled into 500 Ancient Warrior Fragments for charging any other of the Ancient Warrior weapons. It will only be usable against other players by default unless questions 15 or 16 pass.

Poll Question #11
Should Vesta’s Longsword be added as an extremely rare reward from bounty crates in the upcoming Bounty Hunter rework? It would come with 250 charges with one depleting on each hit. On PvP death, it would drop as an uncharged version alongside the remaining charges in the form of Ancient Warrior Fragments. This uncharged version would have the option to be dissassembled into 500 Ancient Warrior Fragments for charging any other of the Ancient Warrior weapons. It will only be usable against other players by default unless questions 15 or 16 pass.

Poll Question #12
Should Zuriel’s Staff be added as an extremely rare reward from bounty crates in the upcoming Bounty Hunter rework? It would come with 250 charges with one depleting on each hit. On PvP death, it would drop as an uncharged version alongside the remaining charges in the form of Ancient Warrior Fragments. This uncharged version would have the option to be dissassembled into 500 Ancient Warrior Fragments for charging any other of the Ancient Warrior weapons. It will only be usable against other players by default unless questions 15 or 16 pass.

Poll Question #13
Should Morrigan’s throwing axes be added as an extremely rare reward from bounty crates in the rework design? They would always be lost after being thrown. They would convert to a small number of Ancient Warrior Fragments on PvP death. They will only be usable against other players unless questions 15 or 16 pass.

Poll Question #14
Should Morrigan’s javelins be added as an extremely rare reward from bounty crates in the rework design? They would always be lost after being thrown. They would convert to a small number of Ancient Warrior Fragments on PvP death. They will only be usable against other players unless questions 15 or 16 pass.

Poll Question #15
If any Ancient Warriors’ weapons are added to the game, should they be usable in all of the Wilderness, including against NPCs?
Poll Question #16
If any Ancient Warriors’ weapons are added to the game and question #15 passes, should they also be usable outside of the Wilderness?
An additional question will be included in this poll to gain insight into voting behaviour. It will ask players for feedback on any rewards they didn’t vote yes to. The results will be visible to all players once the poll has closed.

Thank you all again for your feedback! If you haven’t already, there’s still time to share your thoughts via the links below before the above questions are polled in game.
