Drake/Strategies Guide – OSRS

Drakes are high level Slayer monsters found in the Karuulm Slayer Dungeon. They can drop their claws and teeth, which are used to upgrade the boots of stone and holy sandals into boots of brimstone and devout boots, respectively. These items are five times more common when killed on a Slayer task.

Many players consider Drakes to be tedious monsters to slay for their Slayer task for several reasons; their moderately high stats (including Defence), having reasonable accuracy and are placed in extremely large rooms that limit the effectiveness of a dwarf multicannon. For these reasons, drakes are commonly blocked.

Drakes are considered draconic and as such Dragonbane weapons are very effective.

  • Using the fairy ring (code CIR) and travelling up the volcano
  • Casting Battlefront Teleport or using its magic tablet variant, and running north-west
  • The skills necklace and Farming cape provide teleports to the nearby Farming Guild just south-west.

Mechanics

Drakes’ normal ranged attacks can be fully blocked by protect from missiles.

Drakes do not require a fire protection shield or potion to be slain, unlike most other dragons. However, after seven auto-attacks, drakes will launch a volcanic breath towards the player’s current position, which deals 6-8 damage for four hits if the player is struck by the projectile.

  • The levels of dragonfire protection apply to this special attack.
  • Having a form of dragonfire protection will reduce this to 3-4 damage.
  • Wielding a dragonfire shield, dragonfire ward, or anti-dragon shield alongside drinking an antifire will negate the damage.
  • Using a Super antifire potion or its extended version will negate the damage, allowing you to wear a defender or use a blowpipe.

Alternatively, moving one tile elsewhere when the projectile is launched allows complete avoidance.

Together, a player can take no damage when using protect from missiles and dragonfire protection at range.
