Brutal black dragon/Strategies Guide – OSRS

Suggested skills

  • Attack 70+
  • Strength 70+
  • Defence 70+
  • Ranged 70+
  • Magic 75+
  • Hitpoints 70+
  • Prayer 44+ (Eagle Eye, 70+ Piety, 74+ Rigour)

Equipment

Ranged is typically the best method to kill brutal black dragons, even more so with high-level equipment. The Twisted bow offers the highest damage output. Using the dragon hunter crossbow also offers good damage, although much less than the twisted bow. The Bow of faerdhinen with the full crystal armour set will perform slightly better than the best Magic setups, excluding Tumeken’s shadow.
Players should wear equipment that maximises Ranged damage, accuracy, and Prayer bonuses. When ranging, players should stand at a distance and use Protect from Magic with an antifire potion active, as this will negate all damage (even without an Anti-dragon shield). Lastly, Rigour, Deadeye, or Eagle Eye should be used for better damage output.
Before entering the brutal black dragon area, drink a dose of Divine ranging potion(4) and Extended antifire(4), then activate Protect from Magic and Rigour.

  1. When assigned as a slayer task

Inventory

  • 1 Divine ranging potion(4)
  • Some food to restore lost health from divine potions
  • 2-3 Prayer potions
  • 1 Extended antifire potion, or multiple antifire potions
  • Soul bearer to bank ensouled dragon head drops.
  • Bonecrusher necklace to swap to before killing the dragons to restore Prayer.
  • Nature runes and fire runes for High Level Alchemy, and (optionally) law runes and air runes for Telekinetic Grab to avoid needing to enter melee range for any dragons.
    • (Optional) For more Prayer experience but less Prayer point restoration, Sinister Offering can be used instead of the bonecrusher necklace, although this loses the ability to use High Alchemy unless an Explorer’s ring is brought. Being on the Arceuus spellbook does allow for the use of thralls and Death Charge however, which can speed up kills.
  • Xeric’s talisman, Book of the dead, or runes for Home Teleport(with a Mounted xeric’s talisman) in order to return. The Rada’s blessing teleport to Kourend Woodland can also be used, and then taking the minecart to Lovakengj.

Magic can be an effective way to kill brutal black dragons even with mid-level equipment. Tumeken’s shadow offers the highest damage output. Using the dragon hunter wand and casting water Surge also offers good DPS due to the dragon’s 50% elemental weakness to water spells. Lesser powered staves, such as the sanguinesti staff or trident of the swamp are solid options as well, particularly at high Magic levels due to the way their damage scales with level, although without boosts will typically be outperformed by water spells. Due to their high resistance to magic before the weakness is applied, boosts such as a saturated heart or forgotten brew will still provide a substantial increase in damage from the accuracy boost, despite normally not being very useful on non-powered staves.
Players should wear equipment that maximises Magic damage and accuracy bonuses. When maging, players should stand at a distance and use Protect from Magic with an antifire potion active, as this will negate all damage (even without an Anti-dragon shield). Lastly, Augury, Mystic Vigour, or Mystic Might should be used for better damage output.

  1. High level water spells will be better DPS than powered staves depending on equipment and Magic level, especially with a tome of water.
  2. While comparable in dps with the dragon hunter wand, the increased attack speed makes it more expensive to use
  3. Can also be used to teleport near the cave entrance

Inventory

1000
  • A Saturated heart or other Magic boosting item. If one is not owned, Forgotten brews provide the same boost as an Imbued heart, and their downsides can be safely ignored. If none are available, even Magic potions are enough of an accuracy boost to be worth bringing.
  • Some food in case of mistakes, or if using Divine magic potions
  • 2-3 Prayer potions
  • 1 Extended antifire potion, or multiple antifire potions
  • Bonecrusher necklace to swap to before killing the dragons to restore Prayer.
  • Nature runes and fire runes for High Level Alchemy, and (optionally) law runes for Telekinetic Grab to avoid needing to enter melee range for any dragons.
    • (Optional) If using a powered stave, then the Arceuus spellbook can be used. For more Prayer experience but less Prayer point restoration, Sinister Offering can be used instead of the bonecrusher necklace, although this loses the ability to use High Alchemy unless an Explorer’s ring is brought. The use of thralls can also allow powered staves other than the Tumeken’s shadow to outperform water spells.
  • Soul bearer to bank ensouled dragon head drops
  • Xeric’s talisman, Book of the dead, or runes for Home Teleport(with a Mounted xeric’s talisman) in order to return. The Rada’s blessing teleport to Kourend Woodland can also be used, and then taking the minecart to Lovakengj.
