Adamant dragon/Strategies Guide – OSRS

After completion of Dragon Slayer II, adamant dragons can be found and fought in the Lithkren Vault. As the second strongest metal dragons, caution should be exercised at all times.

Attacks

Similar to their mithril and rune counterparts, adamant dragons use standard dragonfire and attack from all sides of the combat triangle. They also have two unique special attacks:

  • Poison projectile: A green, slow-moving projectile that lands on the player’s position and splits into two more projectiles on impact, each targeting a tile adjacent to the initial landing tile. Each projectile deals 14-25 poison damage in a 3×3 area around the targeted tile. This can be reduced to 4-8 damage by being under the effect of any poison protection. Alternatively, players may avoid this attack entirely by moving at least three squares away from their original position when the attack was launched.
  • Blood Forfeit: A ranged attack that hits through Protect from Missiles and, mimicking the Blood Forfeit effect from enchanted ruby bolts, sacrifices 10% of the dragon’s current hitpoints to deal damage equal to 20% of the player’s current hitpoints. It is recommended to keep the player’s hitpoints around 40-50 to minimise the damage taken from this attack.

Transportation

The fastest way to get to adamant dragons is by using a digsite pendant to teleport Lithkren Vault directly. Alternatively, players can take the boat by Jardric, found to the north-west of Fossil Island, to Lithkren, and navigate the ruins there to reach the vault.

Suggested skills

  • Attack 90+
  • Strength 90+
  • Defence 90+
  • Magic 94+ (optional)
  • Ranged 90+
  • Prayer 70+

Equipment

With base 90 Melee stats and a Ghrazi rapier, dragon hunter lance, or an Osmumten’s fang using melee against adamant dragons is a reliable option. With worse weapons, magic or ranged may be more effective. Adamant dragons have accurate and strong attacks, so Bandos, Justiciar or Barrows equipment is recommended along with Protect from Magic and Piety in tandem to reduce damage taken. Also, Vengeance can be used for dealing with their Blood Forfeit Ranged attacks.

Inventory

  • Digsite pendant or a mounted one in POH with house tabs
  • Special attack weapon choice
  • 1 divine super combat potion, super combat potion or super set
  • 1 extended antifire, or extended super antifire if using a shield without dragonfire protection
  • 3-4 prayer potions
  • 1-2 antidote++, antidote+, superantipoison or antipoison if not using a serpentine helm
  • Rune pouch with runes to cast Vengeance or High Level Alchemy (set warning value to 162,000) (optional)
  • One-click teleport (optional)
  • Food (sharks / manta rays / anglerfish / karambwan)
  • Bracelet of slaughter (optional, if on task)

With level 90 Ranged and a dragon hunter crossbow (DHCB), adamant dragons can easily be killed due to the crossbow’s passive effect, as well as circumventing their melee attack. A Twisted Bow provides comparable damage to a DHCB if not slightly more depending on luck. Armadyl or Karil’s equipment is recommended along with Protect from Missiles and Rigour or Eagle Eye in tandem. Also, Vengeance could be used for dealing with their Blood Forfeit Ranged attacks.

Inventory

  • Digsite pendant or a mounted one in POH with house tabs
  • 1 divine ranging potion or ranging potion
  • 1 extended antifire, or extended super antifire if using a shield without dragonfire protection
  • 3-4 prayer potions
  • 1-2 antidote++, antidote+, superantipoison or antipoison if not using a serpentine helm
  • Rune pouch with runes to cast Vengeance or High Level Alchemy (set warning value to 162,000) (optional)
  • One-click teleport (optional)
  • Food (sharks / manta rays / anglerfish / karambwan)
  • Bracelet of slaughter (optional, if on task)

Tumeken’s shadow’s high accuracy and damage from its passive effect makes it one of the fastest options for killing adamant dragons, provided the player has enough damage-boosting magic equipment such as an occult necklace and ancestral robes. If not on a slayer task, this makes it even faster than using dragonbane weaponry.

Inventory

To maximize inventory space for food to increase trip length, you should pre-pot a dose of antidote++ and an anglerfish, and use a max cape, Construction cape, or house tabs to teleport to your POH to use your mounted digsite pendant. When fighting, stay out of melee distance and use Protect from Missiles and (optional) Augury. If not using Augury, fewer prayer potions are needed.

  • Saturated heart
  • Extended super antifire(2)
  • 4 prayer potions
  • Divine rune pouch with runes for Vengeance
  • High healing food (manta rays / anglerfish / tuna potatoes / sea turtles / sharks / karambwan)
  • Max cape for teleport to house and bank. Can be replaced with Construction cape or house tabs for a one-click teleport to house only
  • Bracelet of slaughter (optional, if on task)

While not as effective as using Tumeken’s shadow, due to adamant dragons’ elemental weakness and relatively low Magic defence, Earth spells can be a viable alternative, especially when used with a dragon hunter wand and/or while on a slayer task.
